Jena and Jordan’s Honey-Do Shower
May 3rd, 2008When Should You Change Speeds?
May 1st, 2008As I was driving home last night, I began to think about how silly some roads have become with multiple speed limit signs within short distances demanding different speeds, and I wondered
“When is the Correct Time to Change your speed while driving?” -me

The diagram above shows:
- Location 1: The Driver has been made aware that the current speed limit is 45 mph. The Driver is going at a speed of 48 mph because he/she assumes this is “what everyone else is doing.”
- Location 2: The Driver now sees that whoever is the person who sits in the dimly lit room in a government office has decided that they want the driver to now go only 35 mph.
- Location 3: The Driver knows the new speed limit and now has reached the point of passing the speed limit sign.
The question is whether or not you should change speeds upon seeing the new speed limit sign or if it is acceptable by a on-looking police officer to change speeds once you are passing the speed limit sign.
In the diagram, I have defined for you what I would like to call the “Chasp Zone” (short for [Cha]nging [Sp]eed). The Chasp Zone is the gap of road between two speed limit signs when the driver must make a choice of “changing speeds”.
So . . . Do you change speeds while in the Chasp Zone? Or, do you change speeds at or after Location 3? Or, No! You don’t? Not at all? You never actually drive that slow!
